Degree

Sheri Schmidt finished her Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry at the University of April in the spring of 2021. Now she is pursuing her PhD degree with the Harynuk lab at the University of Alberta.

Work

Sheri has worked in the Harynuk lab as an undergrad doing summer research and her CHEM 401 research course. Areas she has studied in include flare, urine, and sourdough analysis. She has also worked with fabrics to determine the antibacterial properties of fabrics with a N-Halamine polymer.

Research Interests

Sheri’s main focus is studying plant metabolites to understand how plants deter pests, attract pollinators, and communicate with each other. Her research utilizes collecting the headspace sample from plants from an in-lab designed system. Additionally, Sheri also has projects related to fermentation, beer, and air analysis.

Hobbies

In Sheri’s free time she enjoys staying active by playing soccer, going hiking, and biking. Reading is another hobby of Sheri’s. She enjoys traveling as well and hopes to go to places such as Greece and Iceland. Watching the Oilers win.
