The Shack – Elections, How to join Slack, and more!

Thank you!

To everyone who was able to make it out to the general meeting on Thursday. The meeting was a great success and we're looking forward to getting to know and work with some of you that are interested in becoming Shack Volunteers.

We will be holding elections in The Shack, located in CCIS L2-209. If you have never been in the space, it will be a good opportunity to familiarize yourself with the place. The positions that will be available to run for are:

Vice President Financial
Vice President External
Vice President Secretary
Vice President Membership

If you are unfamiliar with what any of these positions mean, or what their roles would be within The Shack, send us an e-mail and we can clarify exactly what is required of certain roles and if it's something you'd be interested in pursuing.

How to apply for Executive positions:

Send us an e-mail at with the following information:
Your name, year of study, and program of study (for information only)
Why you're interested in the position you're applying for
What your time commitment to The Shack could be in Fall 2017/Winter 2018
Anything else you feel is necessary information for the position

All applicants will be given 5 minutes to talk on election day and we will be using a preferential voting system to elect the new positions. The details and any questions will be addressed at the meeting.

If you would like to run for a position, but you cannot make it to the election's meeting, send us an e-mail and we will find a way to make it work

Getting into Slack!

1. Visit
2. Follow the instructions and sign up with your e-mail
3. You're done!

Slack is our main method of communication with not only the volunteers, but the student group as well. Everything is Shack related will be on this Slack team, so I recommend this to anyone who wants to stay in the loop with The Shack!

General Volunteers

Students who are interested in becoming general volunteers, but not a part of the executive are encouraged to come to the elections on March 30th to be a part of the voting process.

If you want to be a volunteer, the first thing we would like you to do is to follow the steps above in signing up and joining the Slack channel. After that, contact us either through general chat or through private messages, letting us know that you want to volunteer, and we will set-up some time where we can introduce you to the Shack and run over some basic things.

We will ensure that you are comfortable working independently before asking you to do so, and if you ever have questions, we will be there to help!
