Degree<\/span><\/p>\n Ryland Giebelhaus received his Bachelor of Science with an honour in Chemistry from The University of British Columbia \u2013 Okanagan in May 2021. He completed his honours thesis under the supervision of Drs. Susan Murch and Thu-Thuy Dang.<\/strong><\/p>\n Work<\/span><\/p>\n Prior to joining the Harynuk lab in September 2021, Ryland worked with Dr. Susan Murch, where his main focus was on the development of untargeted LC-MS based metabolomics approaches and tools to study phytohormones, specifically to investigate how Mitragyna speciosa <\/em>regulates its biosynthesis of secondary metabolites. During this time Ryland published papers on untargeted and targeted metabolomics of various plant species, including the living fossil\u00a0Wollemia nobilis<\/em>. Currently Ryland is working on developing new tools and technologies for metabolomics and using metabolomics analysis to solve problems in physiology, plant biology, food chemistry, and exposomics.<\/strong><\/p>\n Research Interests<\/span><\/p>\n Ryland is interested in using mass spectrometry-based metabolomics approaches to answer questions about physiology in biological systems, encompassing both bench-top analysis and data analysis approaches. Currently his research interests can be divided into three areas, (1) development of new data tools for processing and handling GCxGC-MS data (2) chemometric analysis of metabolomics data, and (3) applying metabolomics and exposomics methodologies to solve problems in physiology, human health, exposures, and plant biology.<\/strong><\/p>\n Publications<\/span><\/p>\n
